The project

Planned for everyday access and less upkeep.

The homeowner wanted safer access between levels, lasting construction and less upkeep. We connected the lower walkway and upper paver patio with broad block steps, using retaining walls to define the changes in height beside this Clinton home.

A clear route between levels

The lower paved route runs along the house, past the red front door. A broad stairway leads up through the retaining walls to the upper patio and gravel parking area. Each part connects to the next, making the change in grade part of the layout.

The work beneath the finished surface

The construction photographs show aggregate being compacted, paving laid beside the house and block steps taking shape between the walls. That preparation is part of the story, alongside the finished patio and the homeowner’s goal of a lasting space.

The details that tie it together

Dark wall caps trace the curves beside the steps and contrast with the lighter block faces. The paver pattern continues through the patio and walkway, giving the different levels a consistent finish. The result brings paving, walls and steps into one connected outdoor space.
