Our Story

37 Years of Craft, Care, and Community

Whidbey Island Landscaping was founded on a simple belief: if you do honest work, treat clients like neighbors, and respect the land you're working with, the business takes care of itself.

Our Story

From a Single Truck to a Trusted Regional Name

Robert Callahan started Whidbey Island Landscaping in 1989 with a single truck, a passion for the Pacific Northwest landscape, and a belief that great outdoor spaces improve people's lives. Working out of Anacortes, he quickly earned a reputation for meticulous work and honest dealing.

Over the following decades, the company grew steadily — adding irrigation specialists, hardscape craftsmen, and lighting designers as client demand expanded. Each hire was made carefully, prioritizing people who share the same commitment to quality and the community.

Today, with 28 full-time team members and over 37 years of Pacific Northwest experience, we remain a family business at heart. We still answer our own phones, still show up on every job site, and still believe the best work happens when you genuinely care about the outcome.

How We Work

The Principles Behind Every Project

These principles have guided us since 1989 and are reflected in every project we take on.

Client-First Approach

Every project starts with listening. We take time to understand your vision, your budget, and how you live before recommending a single plant or stone.

Environmental Stewardship

Pacific Northwest ecosystems are precious. We design with native plants, water-efficient systems, and practices that support local wildlife and healthy watersheds.

Craftsmanship & Quality

We do not cut corners. Every irrigation line is pressure-tested, every stone is set level, every fixture is properly rated. Our work is built to last decades.

Deep Community Roots

We have served this community for 37 years. Our team lives here, our children go to school here, and we are invested in the long-term beauty of this place.

The Team

Experienced Hands, Local Knowledge

Every member of our crew is trained, background-checked, and deeply familiar with Pacific Northwest growing conditions, soil types, and seasonal patterns.
